Senior Programs, Mahube-Otwa Community Action Partnership, Inc

Mahube-Otwa Community Action Partnership offers a range of programs to meet the diverse needs of senior citizens living in the five-county service area of Mahnomen, Hubbard, Becker, Otter Tail, and Wadena Counties.

RETIRED SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (RSVP)

• Funders: State of Minnesota Dept. of Human Services, Federal Corporation for National & Community Service, Local funders including United Way.
• Funding Level: $155,589
• Service Area: Eight counties - Mahnomen, Hubbard, Becker, Otter Tail, Wadena, Clearwater, Todd & Wilkin.
• Activities: Match volunteers (ages 55 and older) to provide services and expertise in non-profit and educational community programs.
  700 active volunteers working in 90 volunteer sites.

BECKER COUNTY COORDINATOR

• Funders: Land of the Dancing Sky AAA, local funders including United Way, Essential Health, Ecumen Community, Becker County, and Rotary Clubs.
• Funding Level: $37,598
• Service Area: Becker County.
• Activities: Health Insurance Counseling, Medicare Part D Assistance, Nutrition Assistance for Seniors (NAPS), SNAP for Seniors, Caregiver Support, Senior Housing Options, and support to family members.
• Over 5,000 services to seniors provided in 2015.

MEDICARE SPECIALIST

• Funders: Land of the Dancing Sky AAA.
• Funding Level: $25,000
• Service Area: Five-county service area and throughout the State of Minnesota.
• Activities: Five trained Medicare Specialists provide Health Insurance Counseling, Medicare Part D Assistance; Specialist use Revation and Web Referrals via the Senior Linkage Line.
  276 participants in 2015 from throughout the State of Minnesota.

HOMEMAKING & CHORE SERVICES

• Funders: MN Department of Human Services, Board on Again, Elderly Waiver, and Client Co-Payments.
• Funding Level: $500,000
• Service Area: Five-county service area including Mahnomen, Hubbard, Becker, Otter Tail & Wadena.
• Activities: Home Chore Services and Home Maintenance, Home Renovation to achieve handicap accessibility, Homemaking Services, Home Repairs and Energy Related Services.
  102 clients and 49 vendors.

VITA/TAX ASSISTANCE

• Funders: MN Department of Revenue and West Central Initiative Foundation.
• Funding Level: $37,655
• Service Area: Five-county service area including Mahnomen, Hubbard, Becker, Otter Tail & Wadena.
• Activities: IRS and MN Dept. of Revenue trained and certified Tax Aide Volunteers provide free Federal and State Income Tax preparation.
• 22 Volunteers completed 1,497 electronic submission returns.
• 600 Property Tax Refunds completed.

TAI JI QUAN - BONE BUILDER EXERCISE

• Funders: Land of the Dancing Sky AAA.
• Funding Level: $16,000
• Service Area: Five-county service area including Mahnomen, Hubbard, Becker, Otter Tail & Wadena.
• Activities: Train exercise leaders to provide group meetings and support to senior citizens participating in group exercise activities.
• 38 trained leaders providing exercise sessions to 190 senior participants in 2015.
