Semcac Clinic & Winona County Contact Office Relocates to Local Mental Health Center Building

In 2019, Semcac’s Winona Outreach & Emergency Services contact office and Semcac Clinic relocated to a local, nonprofit mental health facility building. The move enhances a developing partnership with Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center (HVMHC), who have provided reliable services in southeastern Minnesota for decades.

The new location is a better fit for the services Semcac provides in Winona. There is more space, which had been a concern since Semcac Clinic and Semcac’s Outreach & Emergency Services programs unexpectedly needed to combine offices, after a fire in 2013. The new space, referred to as Semcac Center, was designed to be a professional medical facility, which creates a better atmosphere for patients and Clinic staff. Previously, services were provided in an old, downtown office building; it was not ideal for providing medical services. Semcac staff aim to provide services in a space that helps patients and clients to feel comfortable and welcome.

Another big improvement for patients, clients and staff is that there is parking space available at this location. Parking at the previous office was an ongoing issue; it was located in the heart of downtown without a designated lot. Also, Semcac Center is located along the bus line.

Semcac Clinic is providing people with non-judgmental reproductive health services, regardless of their health insurance status, using an income-based sliding fee scale. The services offered include STI (sexually transmitted infection) testing and treatment, annual exams, Pap smear cervical cancer screenings, HPV prevention vaccines, pregnancy testing, contraception, comprehensive community education, STI prevention methods and more. In addition, Semcac’s Outreach & Emergency Services office is providing crisis and emergency assistance, community information/resources, advocacy, budgeting education, and homelessness prevention services to the Winona area. These Semcac Center services complement the mental health services offered by HVMHC and are conveniently located under one roof.

In addition, both Semcac and HVMHC are providing warm referrals to clientele and patients, as appropriate. This move has been beneficial in many regards and is promising for new possibilities in the future.
