Prairie Five Community Action - Food Distributions
The Prairie Five Food Shelves along with Prairie Five Meals and Prairie Five Head start programs work with local communities to eliminate hunger.
Our food shelves, senior meal and head start programs are designed to support those who need food assistance. We provide food assistance, including meat, dairy products, fresh produce, snacks along with a sizable food box to individuals and families in need. We are working to strengthen our community by giving ample access to food to our neighbors in need with a focus on providing:
- Food
- Emergency Services
- Healthy Choices
- Develop Healthy Eating Habits
- Build Self-sufficiency
Over the last 6 months this program has brought food to all who need with monthly food shelf distributions, senior food distributions, deliver to your door services, curbside pick-up food distribution and 6 mass food distributions in our service area.
The 6 mass food distributions served over 5100 people in the months of June and August. We served over 550 seniors with frozen meals and senior meal distributions. These distributions are getting food into the hands of those that need it.
The food shelf distributions have made a difference in so many ways. We have seniors that are very proud and do not like to ask for assistance. They come in to use the food shelf and only take a portion of items because they want to make sure there is enough for everyone. We have families that can’t afford fresh produce and only get produce when they use the food shelf. It is difficult to see how many people struggle to have enough food or fresh food items.
Over 150 volunteers, staff and community partners helped with these food distributions. Working together has made these food distributions a huge success. We are proud of the work we are doing to get food to all who need it during these difficult times.
