BICAP - Head Start/Public School Collaboration Project
BI-CAP Head Start and ISD 31 Bemidji were selected to participate in the Office of Head Start and Public School Collaboration Demonstration Project meeting in Scottsdale, AZ in the summer of 2019. BI-CAP was one of 16 teams selected across the nation to participate. The Office of Head Start, the Association of Superintendents and Federal staff are assisting the Team to promote smooth transitions for children and families enrolled in the Head Start program. Together an action plan was developed to strengthen the connection between BI-CAP Head Start and Bemidji Area Schools. Over the past program year, the collaboration supported children, families, staff and the greater Bemidji community toward continued success in this early learning collaborative. The collaborative members include the ISD 31 Superintendent, the Community Ed Director, the School Readiness Coordinator, and a reading specialist and parent liaison. BI-CAP Head Start personnel include the Prenatal to Five Director, the Enrollment and Family Support Manager, the Education Manager, the Kindergarten teacher and parent liaison, and the MDE Head Start Collaboration Director. Utilizing various strategies, the goal is to implement a Collaborative Classroom of Head Start-School Readiness/Special Ed-VPK.
