Community Action Partnership of Ramsey and Washington Counties held its first-ever community Backpack Giveaway Wednesday afternoon. The event, which took place in the agency’s parking lot on Syndicate Street in St. Paul, brought together nearly 1,000 attendees, exceeding all expectations.
With a goal to equip 500 local children for a successful school year, the agency distributed them all in less than 90 minutes. This initiative prepared students for the upcoming academic year and fostered excitement for learning.
In addition to the backpacks, the event featured a free book giveaway, a variety of activities and resources for families. Children enjoyed face painting and tie-dyeing t-shirts, creating a fun and festive atmosphere. The agency also provided free food through its Head Start program.
The Backpack Giveaway was made even more special by the presence of several partner organizations, which set up booths to share valuable information and giveaways. Among the highlights was the distribution of specialty lightbulbs, promoting energy efficiency and sustainability.
The necessity for such programs highlights ongoing challenges faced by many families in the area. The turnout served as a reminder of the financial hardships that persist and the importance of community initiatives in addressing these needs.
Community Action officials expressed gratitude for the support of sponsors and overwhelming response the community. The agency hopes to repeat the event in the future and expand its reach to assist even more families next year.
The event not only provided essential school supplies but also strengthened community connections, proving that collaboration can effectively support the needs of local families.
